1974 Honda CR125 Elsinore

The Elsinore is an iconic machine that changed the face of motocross in the 70's, kicked some Euro ass and set a precedent for fast reliable machines. I was pretty excited to build one. Can't seem to find any build shots, but try to imagine it in red and laying at the bottom of a ravine for a few years (well, at least that's what it looked like when I got it).

Spent months trackign down pictures of the Elsinores to match the paint. Satin black motor, glossy frame, satin green stripe and the perfect shade of silver for the tank.

Pipe is actually too new (period correct would have been welded cones, not stamped). Bike was a solid runner and would fire on the first kick.

I started it and rode it up the street to make sure everything worked, never sitting down (weird quirk I have on paid restorations, owner should be the first to sit on it).

At this point was one of the best restorations I had done. Owner passed on, so no idea whatever became of it. Hope it found a worthy home.

  1. Great Effort ,very satisfying to do a good resto but I comment about the Original pipe - the one you've fitted looks like a '70's DG or Bassani Type (or a later red M model, from distant memory) The Fact original wasn't welded cones - well not the Non-american version, mine was a 1 owner on std bore '74 it had a pressed pipe (I'd send you pics circa 1978 but some sob stole boxs of old photos, while in storage O/seas) , I WISH I STILL had mine (forced sale via emmigration) Mine was a Rocketship (std) & Blew doors off in a drag-race/Holeshot over RM125S,Later Red 125m's (TOO "pipey") & Incl '79 Yams 125 (the White Monoshock Model)... bought mine 0 miles with Original tyres/near-new parked with a busted 3rd gear (the quicker ones took the edge off the gear's dogs)...Sadly sold mine for $250 :( one testpilot came back saying:"Hell, this things faster than my CZ250" - if only we could turn back time.
Thanks for reminding me of happier carefree days & Gasoline with Lead in it.
Restored a C100 Honda scooter too in the '70's from Over-the-counter factory parts.Try that these days.
    Cheers Matey
