1973 Bus Project

Motor build - Just the beginning.

Scored a Vanagon 2L and trans super cheap (first few years of Vanagon used same motor as last year of bus). Trans isn't much use for a Bay, but it's the 6 rib the buggy guys love and I'll off it later to help fund the project. Motor was supposedly rebuilt by VW (stickers on it concur) and within 30 days it was wrecked. No idea how long it has sat around, but at least it was buttoned up. Seems to turn free, so I'll get it on a stand and strip it down this weekend to get the real story.

1973 VW Bus project

There's just nothing cooler than a VW bus. I could only resist the temptation to own one for so long. Scored this little cherry for under a K out in the 909. No interior, no motor, no trans and virtually no rust. The later of the no's being the decision maker in the purchase. Body is damn straight, too. Gave the guy some cash and called a flatbed.

My youngest dreamt this one up, I had another project in mind and his barrage of CL ads pushed em over the edge.

Neighbors probably not super excited, but it'll end up hidden on the side yard for a few months while I sort the details of the build.

He looks good there.

Headliner is nearly spotless and interior steel has only minor surface rust. Great start to a fun project.

Ranger Wrap up

Some final installs and then offing the kids Ranger. Welded in a new cat we had laying around. Bunch of ghetto adapters, but not much sense in redesigning the exhaust on a rig that we're sending down the road.

Broken Ranger

Kid comes come from college on a flatbed.

View from my home office. I could feel my wallet bleeding as the rig backed into the side yard.

This is where we built this truck, so it's on familiar ground.

Oh look...  Broken shit.

How the hell did he even do that?
